Two Months Old
I know that it seems crazy, but this is one of the best times to travel with your baby!
Night Sleep
If you’re travelling to a new time zone, it will be a piece of cake to adjust your two month old’s sleeping schedule. I traveled from Toronto to Edinburgh when Miles was eight weeks old. I agonized over whether or not he would sleep at night. I just out of the Week 6 growth spurt haze, and he had started sleeping four or five hour stretches in the first part of the night. I did not want to mess this up. But it was totally fine! He got the memo faster than I did.
Where to Nap?
At this point, Miles was taking all of his naps in the Moby Wrap, Ergo with the infant insert, or in his car seat (which conveniently snapped to his stroller). I was so tired because I wasn’t napping, and he had to be in motion in order to sleep. I had tried the swing for naps, but he didn’t take to it. So be it. If your goal is to travel when your baby is two months old, I’d strongly suggest getting her used to napping in a carrier.
I borrowed a stroller from a former colleague who lives in Edinburgh. We ended up using it only two or three times in lieu of the carrier. I timed it so that the baby’s naps happened while we were walking from place to place, and then I would nurse him when we arrived for at the venue or at a coffee shop or on a bench. At this point, he didn’t care about being under a nursing cover. (Our nursing cover days ended around when he was 3.5 months old, and distracted nursing set in.)
Along for the Ride
Seriously, this is part of the tiny window in which your baby is truly just along for the ride. Their needs are pretty simple (warmth, food, love, freshie), so you don’t have a ton to pack!
So get those tickets and head to the airport! With your tiny baby, of course.
These are great suggestions!
